The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on August 18, 2026, issued the Competition Commission of India (Commitment) Amendment Regulations, 2026, further to amend the Competition Commission of India (Commitment) Regulations, 2024.
The following has been amended, namely:
• The amendments primarily extend timelines and streamline the commitment application process. The time limit under Regulation 3(3) is increased from 45 days to 60 days. Where a commitment application contains defects or deficiencies, the application will be returned to the applicant, who must rectify the defects and refile it within 10 working days; the fee paid for the original application will be adjusted against the fee payable on refiling, failing which the application will be treated as invalid.
• Under Regulation 4, the relevant period is extended from 7 days to 15 days, while the overall period for concluding commitment proceedings is increased from 130 days to 180 days. Time taken or extensions availed by the applicant or any other party for furnishing information, clarification or response will be excluded from these 180 days; if proceedings are not concluded within the stipulated period after such exclusion, the Section 26 inquiry will resume.
• The amendments also make minor terminology changes in Regulation 5 relating to concerned parties/persons. Further, references throughout Regulations 9, 11, 13, and 14 are updated from the CCI (General) Regulations, 2009, to the CCI (General) Regulations, 2024, including corresponding regulation-number changes from 35 to 36, 37 to 38, and 50 to 51.
